Client:

Our client a leading Multinational Semiconductor Company requires Senior Principal RF Design Engineer for role based in Cork, Ireland.


 

Role:
 

  • Perform the Technical Lead role for major RF ASIC developments with responsibility for leading the specification, design, verification and lab validation activities to meet functional and performance requirements for radio systems.
  • Perform design feasibility studies and analyse new radio design concepts.
  • Work out system solutions in conjunction with the customer.
  • Translate customer requirements into design specifications and design solutions.
  • Lead the specification of complex high performance RF/mixed-signal ASICs.
  • Lead feasibility studies for new ICs and IC sub-systems, ensuring designs meet specification.
  • Technical leadership of ASIC design projects or lead designer for major blocks, ensuring designs are successfully guided into production.
  • Design, simulation and layout supervision of CMOS RF/analog ICs and sub-systems to meet performance, area, power and timescale constraints.
  • Lead lab validation in collaboration with application engineers.
  • Support DFT strategy and implementation.
  • Support test development and qualification teams and ramp to production.
  • Mentor design engineers, acting as a technical role model.
  • Act as point of reference for colleagues, displaying excellence in technical expertise.
  • Proactively seek improvement in technical and non-technical skills and knowledge.
  • Embody best practice, role model change and take active role in strategic initiatives. Sets the standards in behaviour, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Drive identification and implementation of improvements to the company’s RF capabilities.
  • Act as a technical reference point for teams globally, ensuring recommendations and advice are technically sound and in line with developments in external market.
  • Work closely with Sales on customer RFQ responses.
  • Propose leading edge Solutions.
  • Achieve first time right designs, on time and according to design specification and ensuring best practice is followed.
  • Display high level problem-solving capabilities and deliver innovative designs.
  • Ensure impactful dissemination of knowledge across design teams.
  • Produce timely and accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrate timely progress reporting, highlighting of risks and issues and taking responsibility for their resolutions.
  • Demonstrate risks astuteness, proactively implementing solutions with minimal input from manager.
  • Fain recognition for technical expertise in RF design across the ASIC organisation, demonstrated through proactive use of forums such as conferences and training presentations.
  • Display enthusiasm, drive, confidence and teamwork in the role.
  • Drive innovative improvements to working practices and methodologies.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement of technical and non-technical skills, measured through manager review.


Skills and Experience:

What we are looking for

  • 12-15 years of relevant experience in radio design, including 3-5 years at Principal level.
  • Experience of technically leading the design of RF/analog ICs.
  • Full competence in all aspects of RF/analog design, provides guidance to other designers.
  • Experience of converting wireless protocols, standards and customer requirements into detailed technical specifications.
  • A deep understanding of radio system architectures and of linearity, noise and filtering trade-offs.
  • Experience with radio calibration systems such as IP2 calibration, image rejection calibration, DPD, AFC, AGC and LOFT.
  • Understanding of interfaces with other design and engineering disciplines.
  • In depth knowledge of organizational objectives, including business trends and market awareness.
  • Ability to drive initiatives, change and improvement in engineering delivery.
  • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Results-oriented and able to deliver on-time under tight schedule pressure.
  • Flexibility to undertake occasional international travel.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Concise and precise communication, presentation and customer skills within multi-site and multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
Education:
  • Degree level qualification in Electronics/Microelectronics Engineering or a related discipline is required.
