Our client a leading Multinational Technology and Communications Company requires Hardware Design Manager to based in Dublin, Ireland. As a hybrid working model is in place, this only requires occasional travel to the Dublin office. 

Role:

 

The Dublin Hardware Engineering team is responsible for the engineering services associated with 1st and 3rd party devices across multiple software platforms. These products include telematics devices, sensors, peripherals, and cable harnesses.

You will Lead a talented team of Telematics Hardware engineers responsible for many interdisciplinary processes. The Hardware Engineering Manager will work closely with product management to ensure that strategic and growth projects are delivered on time and that systemic field issues are resolved quickly.

  • Understanding the business requirement by working closely with Product management.

  • Developing extensive knowledge of customer needs.

  • Being aware of emerging technologies in telematic devices.

  • Leading the engineering team to define technical requirements.

  • Exploring multiple alternate solutions and reaching consensus with the team.

  • Working with the team to conceptualize new solutions and turning the concepts into reality.

  • Creating or coordinating the design solutions for novel or complex problems.

  • Working with program core team members including Quality and Regulatory to ensure conformance to established design development processes and procedures.

  • Working with technical project managers to create and manage project plans, then delivering through Lean development methodology.

  • Unblocking technical issues inside the team as required.

  • Interacting with cross functional teams on technical matters - driving the resolution of issues.

  • Preparing written communication, conveying information effectively through formal and informal documents, e.g., developing proposals, project summaries, and design documentation; submitting articles for internal publication.

  • Ensuring that all required engineering documentation is completed and up-to-date: system architecture documentation, technical requirements, design documents, design reviews, testing documents, etc.

  • Providing technical mentoring across multiple work groups.

  • Growing the strengths and capabilities of the team members.

  • Identifying development needs.

  • Developing and maintaining engineering processes.

  • Managing Hardware Engineering Budget.

  • Handling Emerging Customer issues from the field.


Skills and Requirements:

You'll need to have:

  • This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Electromechanical Engineering or relevant work experience.

  • Experience developing complex Electronic Products.

  • Telematics / Automotive experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading a team.

  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Knowledge of Vehicle communication Busses (J1939 / J1979 / K-Line).

  • Knowledge of Vector Hardware and Canalyzer Software.

  • Knowledge of ECADstar.

  • Knowledge of HW simulations and tools, such as LT Spice.

  • Experience designing Wire Harnesses (Looms).

  • Experience with requirements management tools.

  • Experience with Project Management tools (Smartsheets / Jira).

  • Knowledge of Software development and tools including Python, C, Microsoft Visual Studio, Test Rail, National Instruments CVI / Test Stand.

  • Demonstrated technical competency in electronic test equipment (such as Power Supplies, Digital Oscilloscope, Communication Testers) and lab management.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members in the development and execution of strategic solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and understand issues - then drive solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve processes and introducing engineering solutions

  • Background in Risk Management.

  • Background in Vendor Management.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, often concurrent, projects and meet deadlines across multiple disciplines and business areas (Run the business actions, Scale projects, Strategic projects and Innovation).

  • Knowledge of Hardware Test strategies, developing test plans and documenting test results.
